It’s been a good romp through 80s and 90s video game history thus far. This week, the duo re-visit the early naughties to talk about a system they barely played (XBox), one they played a few games a lot on (Gamecube), and one they are still playing (The Nintendo DS). How well did our college years treat us for video game entertainment? Let’s confabulate.
- * 2:30 – After waking up, we kick things off with some chatter about the big XBox titles back in the day, like Halo, Halo 2, Splinter Cell, Ninja Gaiden, GTA, and the Dead or Alive games
- * 4:00 – Special call out for Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future on XBox
- * 7:00 – Why are we talking about Dreamcast? Whatevs, I miss that system.
- * 10:00 – Starting to really dig into those college memories, Steve gives Battlefield 1942 some love.
- * 12:20~ – It’s from here on out that we move on from XBox and get into our favorite Gamecube titles, getting a little meaty into the chat about what the biggest sellers were for the system, and the prevalence of Smash Bros Melee among GC owners
- * 17:00 – Some brief talk of Mario Sunshine. We’ll dive into Mario some more later
- * 19:00 – Does anyone miss the incredibly ugly early 3D console games in the mid-90s? How about the transition of everyone’s favorite 2D game series into said ugly 3D?
- * 25:00 – The moment you’ve all been waiting for: our favorite game picks from the Gamecube. Also tune in to find out how Stephen became an animation snob
- * 28:00-32:00 – We start out DS discussion focusing on the DS-era (and GBA-era) Castlevania titles
- * 34:00 – Some amusing anecdotes about non-game software and creatives uses for DS systems back in the days, particularly from Stephen
- * Call out for “Colors!” game, released as a Homebrew title for DS and eventually released for 3DS
- * “Yakuman DS“, a surprisingly fun Mah Jong game with Nintendo characters
- * 37:00-43:30 – A long chatter about Zelda games, mainly focused on the DS Zeldas, but reaching into the Gamecube and Wii days
- * 44:00-47:00 – Now a conversation about Mario games?? It’s a similar mini walk down Mario game history road.
- * 47:00-48:00 – Some memories from the old Blockbuster and Gamestop days (wait, Gamestop is still around, right??)
